ined.fr INED is France's National Institute for Demographic Studies, founded in 1945 in Paris as a public scientific research institution under CNRS patronage and the world's largest demographic research center with 200 staff and 120 researchers. It holds a unique mandate as France's national population statistics authority, producing the annual Démographie de la France report and the monthly Population and Sociétés bulletin. Its 8 research departments cover mortality, fertility, migration, social stratification and global health, publishing over 300 scientific papers per year. INED maintains 20 plus demographic databases including the global Human Fertility and Human Mortality Databases with Max Planck and UC Berkeley. Led by Director Cyrille Schott, it partners with the UN, WHO and 50 plus international institutions while offering open access to all publications.
